Lab for Electronic Arts and Performance (LEAP) is pleased to present a solo exhibition by New York-based artist and composer Tristan Perich. Inspired by the aesthetics of maths and physics, Perich works with simple forms and complex systems. 
For this exhibition, Perich will be exhibiting a body of work that include the sound sculptures Interval Studies and Machine Drawings – the result of a long-standing interest in code and systems. 
Perich’s sound sculptures – Interval Studies – is a formal look at musical intervals as a dense continuum of microtonal pitch, expressed en masse as discrete 1-bit frequencies distributed across hundreds of individual speakers. Each speaker, emitting a single, primitive 1-bit tone, becomes a microscopic voice in the total cluster, substituting individual pitch for larger sonic masses. 
The Machine Drawings – pen on paper or wall drawings executed by a custom-built machine over the course of the exhibition at LEAP, use randomness and order as raw materials within a composition. The machine drawings are a combination of the delicacy of real drawings and the rigid, structured system of mechanics and code.

As part of the Tribeca New Music Festival, Dither will perform Interference Logic, Tristan Perich's recent work for electric guitar quartet with 1-bit electronics, alongside Lisa Coons' Entropion (from Cross-Sections). Joining Dither on the program is Redhooker, performing work by Stephen Griesgraber.

Loud Objects with Ensemble Pamplemousse at Clover's Fine Art

The Loud Objects create electronic noise with minimal components: microchips, a power jack, an audio jack, and wire. The group solders custom audio circuits live, creating audible fluctuations of electricity with these bare elements. Gradually building a complex sound circuit, they present electronic music in a form closer to a physical instrument than a laptop. Their performances invite the audience to bear conscious witness to each musical gesture: the addition of a microchip; the soldering of an output pin to the audio jack.

Ensemble Pamplemousse presents BLOCKS: Revisited. Loud Objects opens. Like Buckminster Fuller, reversible sweaters, or Mr. Potato Head, Ensemble Pamplemousse's BLOCKS are a rearrangeable construction of elements. Prefab modules by the six composers are reconfigured into new structures of sonic architecture. As each block maintains its own internal logic, the listener is pulled forward through the linear unfolding of time. Intertwining patterns of material emerge and dissolve, connect, obstruct, and confer with each other, unveiling new angles of hearing each sonic unit.

The group solders custom audio circuits live, creating audible fluctuations of electricity with these bare elements. Gradually building a complex sound circuit, they present electronic music in a form closer to a physical instrument than a laptop. Their performances invite the audience to bear conscious witness to each musical gesture: the addition of a microchip; the soldering of an output pin to the audio jack.

Using a disparate melange of elements such as voice, broken plastic, words, parts of words, stories, chanting, jigs, screaming, and shouting, Irish composer and extended technique vocalist Jennifer Walshe works with the breakdown of syntax, dissonance, and disintegration.

Torino:Margolis is a performance art team that crosses physical and psychological barriers, using invasive electronics and biomedical tools. They explore the idea that the self is transient, elusive, and modular by playing with the notions of control and free will. Their extraction of physiological processes concretizes these concepts and presents them as questions to the viewer -- not to illustrate the mechanism, but to explore the human experience.
