More Detail on the Rowan Virtual Reality Lab’s CAVE system:
The Rowan Virtual Reality Lab CAVE® is a room sized, virtual reality (VR) environment inside
which a group of users wear stereo glasses to visualize, navigate and interact with a 3‐D
virtual environment that is created using a combination of digital light processing projectors,
infra‐red precision‐position tracking system, data gloves and associated computer hardware
and software.
Software Systems:
The Rowan VR Lab uses two pieces of software to render 3D worlds. The first is WorldViz
Vizard version 4.0+ and the second is Unity. All demos must be generated inside of Vizard or
Unity in order for them to be visualized in our CAVE across all 4 walls.
Computer System:
There are 4 computers in the cluster, each connected to a single projector. A master node at
the front of the CAVE is connected to a separate monitor. A separate tracking system is
responsible for the PPT Tracking system and sending position and orientation information to
the master node. Each cluster computer is linked to one projector, and that single PC is
responsible for rendering the image to be displayed on that one screen.
All PCs run Windows 7 (64 bit) with NVIDIA Quadro 6000 6GB GDDR5 RAM
The system uses Active Stereo using real 3D CE4 glasses to create stereoscopic vision.
General description of the display system:
The physical dimensions of the screens are: W – 10 Ft, H – 7 ft 6 inches
The resolution of the displays are 1400 x 1050 @ 101 Hertz
Display System:
There are 4 Christie Mirage S+ 3K projectors. The resolutions are 1400 x 1050 @ 101 Hertz.
There are 4 walls, 3 vertical, and 1 horizontal for the floor. The floor is front projected, while
the walls are rear projected.
