GALLERIES:

Paris - Rio de Janeiro Gallery (9137 Km) > work in progress - 10,008 meters
up to now! (June).

This work in progress intend to do a cyberspace gallery from Paris to Rio
de Janeiro or the contrary. When the work is ready it must mesure 9137 km,
for now it measures only 10,008 meters (ha ha ha), what is already a good
extension ! It is amazing for me to imagine that I have already done 10,008
meters of images. It is interesting to follow the work. After a year working
in it I realize
that I am not only doing a spacial work, I am also working with time. For
example, you can observe two carnivals in the gallery (2003 and 2004). You
can observe the war against Irak too and other facts that happened in the
world or in my life. I think it is magic, is not it? I am writing History
with images and it was not my intention when I began the work.

News at the gallery Borders of Net.art - Web.art and Art Today > "Cajatres"
by Ivan Mejia Falabela (Mexico) and "www.-reverse.-flash-.-.back" by
Jimpunk
(France), (June).
Two funny works! Enjoy!
Falabela invite us to discover with a mouse click what there is inside his
surprise box...
Jimpunk is the artist of the windows, to browser his work is always a
surprise, we never imagine what will appear. Reverse-flash-back is one of my
favorite works on the net.

News at the gallery Electronic Artist's book > "Sonic Persephone" by
Christina McPhee (USA), "Dreams of Cobras" by Deena Larsen (USA) (June)
"Sonic Persephone" is a very sophisticated work, based on Italo Calvino
literature. The images, sounds and the structure of this Christina MCPhee
work/book form an amazing set.(fast connection recommended)
Dreams of Cobras by Deena Larsen - Kanji kus are short poems based on the
Japanese Kanji or the ideogram for the world itself. Dreams of Cobras is a
very interesting kind of narrative. The "cobra" is there and you must touch
it to read the text ...

News at the gallery Electronic Poetry > "Pain" by Annie Abrahams (France),
"Le bonheur" by Patrick-Henri Burgaud (Netherlands) (June).
Two very sensitive works about feelings. Pure Poetry!

News at the gallery Esthetic of Tragedy > "Mars 2004" by Xavier Cahen
(France) (June).
The war showed in a very strong creation.

NEW SPACES:

"Garden and Lake" > H2O, Playing with water (June)

The lake is conceptual because it arose from a series of digital photos
took in "Nossa Senhora da Paz" Square , Rio de Janeiro, those photos showed
the XXI century impressionism . As well as that movement, caused by
the invention of the photography, changed the XX century Art and created a
new
view, the computer is causing a revolution in the current Art and the Museum
of the
Essential and Beyond That has full conscience of being contributing for the
understanding of these changes.

Orphee Aphone is a piece heavily influenced by mythology and literature, a
new interactive work in which the viewer makes his/her way through a path -
which is something like a computer game - by following a challenging
multimedia trail (images, fragments of poetry, video). The user is most
important, "is in the main position."

DISCUSSION

News at the Museum of the Essential and Beyond That

Dear Friends,

We are starting today a new collaborative review and at the same time
launching a new building of the museum, where you can find the video room
(ready), the games room (ready) and the Fast Food (coming soon). Browser at:

http://arteonline.arq.br (popup windows available ), click video room on
the building map.

That new video room is being launched with a homage to the American artist:

BILL LUNDBERG

" A pioneer in the field of contemporary film and video installation,
Lundberg has engaged in aesthetic investigations that predate and presage
those of his more notable contemporaries including Gary Hill, Bill Viola,
and Tony Oursler. For over thirty years, Lundberg has integrated the
formalist qualities of painting, performance art, and film to speak to the
human condition. To understand the invaluable contributions of this pioneer,
to position his work within the spectrum of contemporary art practice,
viewers must first experience his illusory presence. Lundberg is a magician
of the human heart." (Valerie Cassel)

Visiting the video room you will find a link to Bill Lundberg' videos.

Marmol, the video of the month is a work done by the Brazilians JOESER
ALVAREZ and CARLOS MOREIRA. You can open that video from the museum's video
room or browsering at: http://www.iis.com.br/~regvampi/video/black.htm .
Marmol and another Alvarez's work, the Scalpoema (since 2002 in the
museum), http://www.iis.com.br/~regvampi/museu/netartwebart/joeser.htm ,
explore the Thanatos' Concept and will be the object of our collaborative
review of this month.

In the new Video Room, through links, also are being exhibited during a
month:

Atomic Elroy - "Jeff and I get a Hamburguer"
Doran Golan - "Tale of Crow"
Philippe Boisnard - Video Poetry
Regina Celia Pinto - Three Worlds

You also can read all the second collaborative review, about Marcelo
Frazao's work, at:
http://arteonline.arq.br/newsletter/review2english.htm . However, I would
like to show here the same text I found at Keith Haring's website (
http://www.haring.com/master_sex.htm ):

WARNING: This exhibition contains sexually explicit material that is not
appropriate for children and / or that some people may find offensive. If
you do not wish to be exposed to this material, do not browser there.

If you like BEAUTY, browser the Museum's Garden /Lake at:
http://arteonline.arq.br/h2o , about the lake, Millie Niss wrote:

"I am very impressed with the garden. I liked it before (when I saw an
incomplete version), but I think it is much better now. You are one of the
few people in net art who is making "Art" that can stand as Art. I would
expect people who like art to like your works, even if they are not computer
people. As I said when you showed me the incomplete version, this is Art
that fits in the artistic tradition and shows an understanding of art
history and of techniques from other arts. (For example, the photo of the
sinks looks almost Cubist, you have Japanese themes, you have the clay works
which I gather are modern but they seem almost ancient runic in style, you
have Impressionism, etc.) Here you have photographs that look like paintings
(I think they are modified photographs), little animated motifs that are
subtle instead of obvious like most animation, videos which like the
animation are tiny and delicate, rather than gross, and hand drawn motifs
which layer on top of the photo paintings. The sound also adds to the
experience; it is agian subtle, and it highlights the Japanese theme along
with the water sounds. Unlike many other people's sound work, it does not
sound like the soundtrack of a video game! Thus you really use MULTImedia,
only not in a showy way while says "Look what I can do!" but in a way that
makes a unified work, not an assemblage of parts. An interesting aspect of
this work is that is very organic, has smooth edges, gradations of tone,
etc. which is unusual in digital art."

DISCUSSION

appropriation

Dear Padin and rhizomes,

Do not forget of browsering these sites about the last movie about Che
Guevara, by the Brazilian director Walter Salles:

http://adorocinema.cidadeinternet.com.br/filmes/diarios-de-motocicleta/diari
os-de-motocicleta.htm (Portuguese)

http://www.motorcyclediaries.net/ (English)

The movie tells a trip across Spanish America, done by Che Guevara and
Alberto Granado. We can realize that it was during that trip, observing the
social problems of South America, that he decided to be what he was. A
wonderful movie!

All the best,

Regina

TURNS OF LIFE
In October 8, 1992, I memorialized a new anniversary of the death of Che
Guevara with the appropriation and change of name of Liberty Square of
Montevideo, Uruguay.
Nowadays, 2004, we informed us for internet that transnational companies are
making the same:

By being living in the Post Modernism, in the time of "everything prevails",
we don't have to worry us for the trans(inter)textuality neither the spoil
but rather these companies take possession of our spaces. Won't these
appropriations of the public spaces have that to see with the neoliberal
strategy of massive control of the communities? Where we will be going to
stop....!

The garden of the Museum of the Essential and Beyond That is already ready.

The garden of the Museum of the Essential and Beyond That is ready, browser
at:

and have nice and beautiful dreams!

The lake did the garden. Everything is composed around of this water that
thinks. The lake is a great tranquil eye. It receives all the light and with
this light it does a world. The world is contemplated, the world is
represented by the lake.

The water and the dreams. The dreams in the water. The soul and the dreams.
The time line of dreams.
