bio:
babel [ www.babel.ca ] is a digital writer and artist, born in the UK and
currently living in Canada. He has exhibited solo and collaborative
work on and offline since 2002. He is editor of the experimental magazine
and artists' network 391.org [ www.391.org ] and other 391
communities including Terminology Poets
[http://communities.msn.com/TerminologyPoets ] and antitram [
www.antitram.com ].
Work: Moolix / Gallery Cloning and the Web
babel represents my interest in the myths of the Tower of Babel [
www.towerofbabel.info ] For me the story captures a cleavage of word and
object which is the point where poetry becomes possible - I still consider
myself to be a poet, even though much of my work is now more
visual than textual. However (unlike a poet) I like to collaborate with
other artists and writers, particularly in languages other than my own.
The themes in my solo work often originate from my interest in the early
avant-gardes, particularly the futurists and dadaists, and the
exploration of their ideas in multimedia.

Where you will spend the night of December 31st?
If you add a message to "Cartographies of Hope" at
http://www.frappr.com/arteonline/ you will be invited to a wonderful and
free New Year Eve at ... ;-)
The Restaurant Eating Pixels
(By Regina Celia Pinto, translation into English by Sabrina Gledhill)
If you are a regular traveler in cyberspace and still haven't heard of the
excellent "Eating Pixels Restaurant," the five-star eatery on the terrace of
the Museum of the Essential and Beyond That, we suggest that you pay it a
visit and try its delicious international cuisine.
The address is: http://arteonline.arq.br . Just click on Map. Then take the
panoramic elevator, from which you can see the farthest points in
cyberspace, a general view of nearly all the hypertexts, both known and
unknown: a stunning vista. Get off at the terrace and click on Restaurant.
You will receive a warm welcome from your ever-hospitable hostess, who will
usher you into the large revolving room with its transparent blue dome,
which magically tinges everyone with that lovely shade - there, the rotating
movement will give you a different, even more eloquent view. Despite this,
your attention will sometimes be drawn to the interior of the restaurant,
where you can always find well-known artists and works. At the entrance to
the room, for example, you'll see the captive table of Pablo, the Spanish
genius, and you're very likely to find him there, ready to chat about art.
Among the many treats on the menu, you can enjoy a delicious Brazilian
feijoada (bean feast) with plenty of toasted manioc flour and caipirinhas.
We can confidently state that this is Mona Lisa's favorite meal. However,
the menu is varied and there will always be something to please your palate.
Be sure to try the strawberry pie for dessert - it's a very good-humored
dish...
We should add that the restaurant's quality control is excellent, and a peek
into the kitchen is an excellent opportunity to check it out. While there,
be sure to visit the kitchen museum. It is still building up its collection,
but already allows you to visit Rio de Janeiro's old cannibal kitchen. If
you have an old-fashioned kitchen, please send a photo to
arteonline@arteonline.arq.br. It will join the museum's collection.
If you need to use one of the bathrooms, please don't hesitate - there are
several at your disposal on the museum terrace, each decorated in accordance
with its preferred artistic style - a wonderful opportunity to improve your
knowledge of Art History.
When it comes time to savor a liqueur, go into the garden and drink yours at
the side of the lake, and take the opportunity to dream a bit. It's an
excellent place to finish your meal.
