The Living Room, a specially commissioned exhibition, explores peoples’ individuality through the customisation of their living spaces.
The Living Room goes behind closed doors and net curtains to reveal the cultural richness of our domestic design tastes. It offers a fresh take on the nation’s current fascination with home makeover TV programmes.
Visionary artists and designers, The Light Surgeons, weave the personal stories of peoples’ homes by creating a unique mixture of video, print work, photography and sound design.

The Lightsurgeons exciting video realism project THE LIVING ROOM invites London based artists to enhance their skills in documentary-style film-making. The Living Room will uncover peoples homes and personal tastes, habits and cultures. We are looking for volunteers to help produce the material for this gallery exhibition and a live audio-visual performance.
This specially commissioned exhibition is an anthropological study that aims to excavate our fragmented identities from the interiors and artefacts in our urban dwellings. Using an innovative four-camera set up, it draws on local peoples stories through its investigative, documentary approach and a series of out-reach workshops. The exhibition will close with a one-off live performance drawing on themes of cultural identity and the home. We are also looking to tour this piece nationally.
We need people to work on the following areas:
-Research
-Filming
-Post-production
-Gallery installation set-up
-Live performance

Other highlights include the unveiling of Cybersalon's latest maverick software, iConspiracy - an on-line conspiracy generator, a gravity-defying set from 'the first DJ on the moon', and an investigation into digital evangelism from cult magician, Tommy Angel.

The co-creators and performers of Texterritory will discuss this new work where the audience direct the narrative by SMS. This commission for Future Physical incorporates dance, music and poetry. Sheron, currently a Nesta fellow, is working on narrowing boundaries between audience and performer; she also has her own contemporary dance company. Texterritory was made using a Flash interface and XML scripting by Fleeta Siegel. What further possibilities are there for this type of audience interaction?

Bea Gibson, founder of the Nungu, will discuss her accent neutralisation software made with Sejal Chad and Adrian Ward. Packaged as a training tool for call center agents in India it is a satirical look at the generic 'globalised' identity. The piece is informed by Bea’s position working between Mumbai and London. To what extent can this type of tactical intervention be used?
