BIO
Nancy Nisbet is a multidisciplinary artist who uses her practice to weave connections between the political, the technological and the personal. At the foundation of her artwork is the desire to facilitate dialogue within and between diverse communities. Rather than creating an art ‘object’, Nisbet’s work is often more process-based and draws from her expertise in photography, video and performance. She generates a critical exchange that extends beyond the gallery walls to engage issues of privacy, surveillance and the political and technological constructions of identity.

Nisbet is well known for her use and critique of Radio Frequency ID (RFID) technology. She speaks on issues of contemporary art in connection with surveillance, human rights, RFID technology, and identity, and is also the author of several essays that address the limitations and liabilities of the powerful and wide-ranging use of RFID today. Her artwork has been presented internationally including exhibits in the United States, Mexico, Germany, The Netherlands, Japan and Thailand.

Nisbet received her MFA from the California Institute of the Arts in Photography in 2000 and holds a BSc. in Genetics(’91) and a BEd. in Secondary Education(’93).
