(Tangible) Manifestations of Code
CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
Art2Code is a catalog that will exhibit the work of artists who use computer programming and code to create work that manifests as screen imagery, sculptural objects, installation environments, or time-based performance.
The collected artworks will highlight the various ways algorithms and computer coded instructions are used to create artwork that expands the interactive relationships between art, artists and audience.
The College Art Association and the artists collective, v1b3, will distribute the printable PDF catalog. Each project will link to the v1b3 website where additional media will be available and the catalog can be downloaded.

Jacki Apple and Mat Rappaport, the producers of a 2014 ARTspace session, seek your participation for “Designing a Better Future: A Participatory Platform for Exchange,” taking place at the 102nd CAA Annual Conference in Chicago on Saturday, February 15, 10:00 AM–2:00 PM. Deadline for proposals: June 1, 2013; notification of selection: June 20, 2013.
Designing a Better Future: A Participatory Platform for Exchange
Artists and designers operating as thinkers and communicators, visualizers and producers, can be leaders in changing how we think, live, and act in order to make a better world. Are we ready to discuss cultural production and the arts as viable and meaningful practices beyond the established system of commodity trading? What potential models of an effective creative practice can we envision and develop?
Artists, designers, media producers, photographers, filmmakers, architects, writers, theorists, educators, and cultural historians are invited to submit proposals for presentation and discussion that will inspire others to join them in imagining, inventing, and actualizing a more sustainable and enlightened possible future, whether it be local or global.
What would you do to effect change? What would that look like? Do aesthetics matter?
We seek provocative and challenging theoretical concepts and/or models for practical application. Encouraged are visionary, daring, and unconventional ideas and collaborations across fields in the arts, sciences, and humanities that conceive different ways to address social, economic, and environmental realities.
General topics and themes to consider may include:
Climate change, the environment, and sustainable living: consumption, energy, waste, food, water, air, and economic and social consequences
The culture of violence: all its social, political, cultural, and economic manifestations
Technology and human rights: biological, political, intellectual, and spiritual
Presentation Format
The format for presentation will be an interactive forum of exchange between speakers and audience. There will be no podium. Speakers will be placed within the audience. Presentations may include visuals such as images, texts, charts, etc.
Each speaker will be given seven minutes to present his or her proposal. The audience will then have equal time—seven minutes—to respond and discuss. Time may be slightly less or more depending on the number of outstanding proposals selected.

Please send a description of your topic and the theoretical concepts and/or model that you intend to propose in approximately three hundred words, plus a brief biography or CV of no more than two pages. The written proposal must include a title, name(s) of author(s), address, email, and phone number. Please submit all proposal files as PDF documents to studio@meme01.com. Deadline for proposals: June 1, 2013; notification of selection: June 20, 2013.

Please join iDMAa (International Digital and Media Arts Association) and La Salle University for an International Conference on Digital Media in Philadelphia November 8 - 10
The purpose of the conference is to help bring the different educators together to begin to discuss how to make digital communications/media into a discipline. To that end, iDMAa is trying to contact individuals in the mid-Atlantic area who teach digital media, digital design, digital communications, or one of the other new media programs in existence.
-The Conference speakers include: Lars Qvortrup on Hypercomplexity, K. Hariharan on Evolving Nature of Digital Film/Video, Allan Jacob from Autodesk (the makers of Maya) Contemporary Issues of 3-d Animation, Peter Rivera from AOL, Curt Kratchman from Schematic Corporation and others.
-A sample of the sessions include, Mobile Media, Second Life, Collaboration Journalism, Design Activism, Pedagogy, Promotion and Tenure in the Academe, Multi Media Programming, Digital Music Composition and more.
-Two Digital art exhibitions, iDEAs is a juried digital art exhibition at F.U.E.L. one of the amazing galleries in Old City.... shape: space: object presented at the Painted Bride Art Center. and this year schools may sponsor a student exhibition to provide their top students with exposure to the iDMAa attendees and the City of Philadelphia.
The Conference site and hotel is the Holiday Inn in Old City- in the center of the Historic District. Every conference attendee will have included in his or her registration a Saturday morning visit to the incredible Constitution Center, which houses over 100 digital media application examples.
As a bonus, the 9:00 am - 5:00 pm pre-conference program Making Money with Content,
a co-sponsored program between iDMAa and Lightbulb Communications will be set at the
Constitution Center and includes lunch and breaks for just $99.
The iDMAa conference is as good a value as you can find - great interactive sessions,
excellent speakers and other talents, art show receptions with hors d’oeuvres and
refreshments, an awards dinner, lunch and breaks....and all under $300.

V1B3 is requesting submissions of short videos* that in the broadest terms possible, explore public space though human interaction, intervention and the mechanisms that influence and control the experience of the city.
V1B3 is an international curatorial project that aims to present video art that responds to the conditions of site specificity and a public viewer-ship. Urban planners and architects are used to shaping cities by means of infrastructure, zoning and buildings. However, other modes of intervention exist that are capable of influencing the development of a city. Communicative media interventions can transform public spaces.
V1B3 Summer06 will be presented in conjunction with the University Film and Video Association conference, sponsored by Chapman University in Orange, California. The US screening will occur during the UFVA conference [August 1ST-5th] in Orange, CA. The UK screening will be held at the London Study Center.
V1B3 Summer06 will have a companion DVD developed for publication and purchase.
