Talks and demonstrations exploring the Internet as a destination for making and showing artwork, for sharing sounds, bringing communities together, and curating sonic experiences. Sound:Site brings together a set of exciting projects from in and around the Sound Art community, framing contemporary practice and emerging online/offline possibilities.
Taking place in the splendid Georgian mansion that has been home to South Hill Park, one of the UKʼs longest surviving regional arts centreʼs. The venue lies 25 miles West of London in the Thames Valley in Berkshire.
Featuring:
Chris Clark, Head of Digital Research, British Library “UK Sound Map” The exciting new project being rolled out by the British Library to catalogue the sonic experience of the UK in the 21st Century.
Patrick McGinley “Framework”
Artist and broadcaster whose “Framework” radio show airs on Resonance FM and syndicates across Europe, acts as a hub for the global field recording and phonography community.
Kathy Hinde & Ed Holroyd “Twitchr”
The artists will talk through the concept and technical details of their “Twitter meets bird spotting” project “Twitchr” and then take everyone out to the Park for a live demo.
9 x 5 Micro-Presentations A 9 x five minute info-burst from the community. Artists and instigators of web-based sound projects outline their approaches and challenges.
Felicity Ford & Paul Whitty “Sound Diaries”
Recording life in sound. Project of Oxford Brookes Universityʼs Sonic Arts Research Unit
Performance: 7.00pm “Framework 250 Remixed”
Live sonic performance from artists who feature on “Framework 250′′ the recent definitive CD collection of phonography-based work, with Patrick McGinley, Simon Whetham, Jonathan Coleclough.

9x5 at Sound:Site
On 2nd October 2010, South Hill Park, Berkshire, UK will host the Sound:Site festival.
One part of the event will be opportunity for 9 artists or organisations to present their web-based project, community or technology in a 5-minute micropresentation format, and so 45 minutes of real conference time will resemble 45 minutes of virtual browsing time.
A chance to talk-up your work and let an audience know your take on using the web as a platform, delivery tool, network, or source of information.

The latest episode of Gene Pool artists-talk podcast is online now.
Episode#21: ArtWash, features interviews with artists, Ann Rapstoff and Kay Sentance about their ArtWash, Take Out and Art Delivery projects in and around the Oxford area.
Exhibition and performance events in unusual locations, such as a local Launderette, Chinese Take Away or a home dinner party, explore the potential for bringing artworks to new communities and encourage artists to consider giving their work a new context.

Still mining the rich material from our "Digital Developments" season over the Autumn at South Hill Park, UK - the new Gene Pool podcast showcases material recorded during our "Circuit-Bending" weekend from late-November.
We speak with workshop leader, artist and hardware hacker Stu "ASMO" Smith about the "parallel world of sounds" brought to light in his projects, research and development time at STEIM in Amsterdam, and performing a concert in the National Space Centre's Planetarium. We also hear from some of the weekend participants before cutting into a chunk of the final sonic freak-out performance, with the newly minted Atari Punk Console instruments being put through their paces.

As part of the annual Lift Off! Dance Festival at South Hill Park Arts Centre and Dancin’ Oxford Festival, we will be screening an international selection of dance for camera video work during both festivals, throughout the period of January-March 2010.
This year’s Xtend is looking for artist video pieces and dance for screen works which feature human bodies escaping gravity, responding to architecture, free-running, skate film and creative interpretations of our theme.
Artists are invited to send in submissions on DVD along with a completed application form, which can be downloaded from : www.digitalmediacentre.org
