Empire Lake (2002-3) is a 3-channel video installation created with traditional stop motion animation techniques. Jiffy Pop popcorn packaging, rubber hoses and a pool of white paint were all photographed frame-by-frame to create the landscape of oil-sucking, bomb-dropping and sunsets. The music was composed in collaboration with Carolyn Dinshaw.
Empire Lake was orginally projected at the Art Institute of Chicago as a part of Project Enduring Look (2002), a collaboration by artists, activists and academics investigating the limits of political expression and critical thought in a time of war.
