ASPECT: The Chronicle of New Media Art, a biannual DVD publication,
is currently accepting submissions of time-based work for V19: COMMUNICATION.
As the tools of communication continue to evolve, so does language itself. As globalization expands our notion of community and networked culture shrinks the boundaries between public and private, the strategies through which we communicate are thrown into question. In light of this questioning, we are looking for media artworks that address language and communication as their primary subjects.   We will review installation, video, performance, sound and any other work best documented in time-based format.
ASPECT asks artist/commentator pairs to submit proposals of time-based work. Commentators may be curators, historians, critics, or educators who can offer a distinct perspective on the work. Criteria for selection will include the qualifications of the commentator and the quality of the work. Audio recordings of the commentary will be assembled after the submissions have been selected.
Submissions must include:
-Video documentation (less than 15 minutes in length)
-A brief (100 word) statement regarding the submitted work
-Resume of the artist, resume of commentator
-Contact information for the commentator and artist
-Brief notes outlining the proposed commentary w/ respect to theme

ASPECT: The Chronicle of New Media Art is pleased to announce the release of ASPECT Volume 14: Middle East. In this volume, ASPECT once again explores new territory, entering an area so culturally conflicted that the very term "Middle East" is disputed as a holdover from colonialism. The issue presents nine artists' perspectives from both inside and outside of the region. Not only focused on the political, religious, and cultural dissent, these works ruminate on language, food, ritual, media, power, fear, humor, and beauty.

The volume includes work by Maayan Amir and Ruti Sela, Anya Belkina, Wafaa Bilal, Teresa Diehl, Mounir Fatmi, Sabine Gruffat, Jon Kessler, Roee Rosen, and Larissa Sansour, and optional audio commentary by Bill Arning, Carol Becker, David Dinnell, Tarek Elhaik, Alanna Heiss, Roee Rosen, Manon Slome, and Nicole Triche.

OPEN CALL—VOLUME 14: MIDDLE EAST

From ancient times to the contemporary moment, this region is a crucible of cultural, religious, economic, political and strategic import. We seek new media work focused on any aspect of this sensitive region, and are specifically interested in work generated in the Middle East, but will consider all work focused on the topic. ASPECT SEEKS MEDIA ART SUBMISSIONS FOR VOLUME 13: PUBLIC

ASPECT: The Chronicle of New Media Art, a biannual dvd publication, is currently seeking time-based documentation of artwork in the public sphere for Volume 13: Public. Expanding the notion of public art, this issue will focus on artists’ interventions within civic space, ephemeral or monumental.

The staff of ASPECT is seeking curators, art critics, and members of the contemporary art community to help assemble and comment on works for this issue by submitting a work of art on which they wish to provide audio commentary. Due to the format of the publication, the criteria for selection will include both the qualifications of the commentator and the quality of the work submitted. Audio recordings of the commentary will be assembled after the submissions have been selected.

Submissions should include:
- Video documentation of a work or small group of works by a single artist (no more than 15 minutes in length)
- A brief (100 word) statement regarding the submitted work
- Resume of the artist

ASPECT: The Chronicle of New Media Art, an international biannual dvd publication, is currently accepting submissions of work best documented in a time-based format for Volume 12: Vital. This issue will explore that which is essential, grave, indispensable, and/or critical to existence.

In addition to seeking artists, the staff of ASPECT is asking curators, art critics, and members of the contemporary art community to help assemble and comment on works for the next issue by submitting a work of art on which they wish to provide audio commentary. Due to the format of the publication, the criteria for selection will include both the qualifications of the commentator and the quality of the work submitted. Audio recordings of the commentary will be assembled after the submissions have been selected.
