E32 - Open Call
Deadline:
Mon Feb 09, 2009 00:00
CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
EXHIBITION OPPORTUNITY - E32: EVERY THIRD TUESDAY
E32 is looking for Group Shows and Art Videos to be presented on a dual vision projection screen in the window of 5C Cultural Center and Cafe. The work will be seen on the sidewalk of this highly pedestrian trafficked corner on the Friday and Saturday nights preceding the Third Tuesdays. On Third Tuesdays the projections will include an artist's talk, all welcome.
Group Shows can be curated around themes as loose as subject matter; affiliation, i.e. the artists in your studio building; shared unconventional media, shared love of beer, etc. To submit send an email including the links to Linda@lindagriggs.com
When we have enough work for a show we'll put it up and have an artists talk and an after party.
FYI, the January 15th show is excellent - art music, video and a group show of still images. 8-10pm. 5C at the corner of 5th st and Avenue C in Manhattan's Lower East Side.

NEW CLEAN WARS with AUDIO ARTISTS Curated by Lawrence Swan
Lawrence Swan and members of Audio Artists, Scott Williams, Frank Coelho, and Ed Potokar
SHADOW SHOW
Sixteen artists, many from Providence, Rhode Island, and others from Connecticut and New York explore a range of associations with the word and idea of "shadow." Included will be work in which physical shadows either play an integral part, or the ideas of shadow, as in tail, trace, surveillance, mystery, memory and longing, are explored. The exhibition will work on multiple levels, addressing visual mystery, but also hidden systems in society. Includes painting, sculpture, video, new media, installation.

NEWCLEANWARS and AUDIO ARTISTS
Newcleanwars is an anagram for Lawrence Swan and evolved out of the Semiotic Liberation Front, an art band active in the 80s. Mr. Swan is also a member of the Audio Artists. The Audio Artists, more of a "science project than a band", boldly chart the ground between the technological, no logical and scatological traditions. With a palette of pure analog electronic sound, driving percussion, spoken word, Theremins, Stylophones, Waterphones, double bass entendres and cheap theatrical ploys, the Audio Artists paint a hypnogogic mindscape of aesthetic, kinetic, audio vision. After the End of Art, Swan became a wandering art bum.
The presentation includes live spoken word and music with moving and still images of art and homemade non-keyboard synthesizers, including the legendary Theramin Bra.

E32'S DECEMBER SHOW IS
HOLIDAY SURPRISE
Dec. 18th, 8-10pm
Think of it as an open mic night only it's for art/video. Bring your 3 minute video or your jpgs on CD/DVD. While your work is being shown you may want to speak about the work or do a little Q&A. It's a very low key, supportive and unpretentious vibe. Bring anything you want to market yourself as an artist such as resume, art cards, business cards, etc. Be prepared to network and to give and get applause.
If you would like to guarantee your spot in the show you can pre-register by emailing me at linda@lindagriggs.com
Guidelines for JPGS
It's easiest to put your jpgs as data files on data CD/DVD
1.4 mb seems to produce a good image
size for a 40 x 60 inch screen
sRGB which is standard
(Think of this as practice for your next NYFA application)
Guidelines for Video
It's easiest to put your mpgs as data files on data CD/DVD
The screen is 40 x 60”.
Mpeg-2
Invariably someone's DVD won't work on my Philips DVP5140 in spite of its' reputation for playing almost anything you can burn. Technical problems are inevitable. Don’t yell at the volunteers.
For the press release:
On E32 night, the 3rd Tuesday, December 18th from 8-10pm video and traditional artists responding to an open call will be present with their art on DVD. We don't know what we'll see. Like any gift ever given, it could be a delightful surprise or "Pajamas. Gee, Grandma, thanks." In any case, we will find joy in sharing and the projector bulb will make the season bright.
Any questions contact Linda@lindagriggs.com

5C Cultural Center and Cafe
Deadline:
Sat Dec 20, 2008 00:00
5C Cultural Center and Cafe has been so pleased with the addition of E32's projected art and artists' talk series that it would like to extend an invitation to other groups doing projection-presentations.
At E32 we bring our own equipment and I pass the hat for the house since they don't charge us for use of the space.
5C's focus has been primarily jazz and avant guard music. They show documentary film as well.
They do have a projector and sheet on the wall and it's appropriate to arrange a rental fee/contribution for use of the equipment. They're a not for profit if you're looking for a tax deduction.
I've loved working with Bruce and Trudy at 5c. They've been very supportive of E32 and in turn E32 has brought in an additional audience and customers for 5c.
To contact them, email Trudy at
