Tuesday, September 18th, 8-10pm, E32 is pleased to present two shows exploring Abstraction:
PAINTING AS DISCLOSURE
Kylie Heidenheimer
Allen Hansen
Laura Via
Robert Kingston
COLOR, SURFACE & GEOMETRY
Chris Dulap
Lori Ellison
Jenny Wunderle
PAINTINGS AS DISCLOSURE - Kylie Heidenheimer, Allen Hansen, Laura Via and Robert Kingston, all - on their own terms - explore the physicality of paint. While working within a limited format, these artists exemplify personal and diverse vocabularies that are resonant and uniquely theirs.
COLOR, SURFACE & GEOMETRY: Abstraction at it's most basic deals with color, surface and form. But Abstraction risks being merely decorative unless it has some higher content. Often discussions of painterly Abstraction incorporate philosophical or spiritual systems but spirituality is in the inner eye of the beholder. This discussion is less often applied to Geometric art but Geometries, decorative and Sacred, have their roots in pre-history and remain meaningful today.
These three artists, concerning themselves with geometry and repetition, are within the lineage of the Bauhaus -- a contemporary, funky Bauhaus, leaving ideology and social reform behind and keeping the playful.
Sometimes there can be pleasure in just looking.
Join the artists on September 18th for a lively and good-natured discussion on the how and why of their work and enjoy coffees, espresso, teas, juices, baked goods and vegetarian fare in this charming and comfortable environment.
5C CULTURAL CENTER AND 5C CAFE provides a stimulating, comfortable environment for community involvement in education, activism and the performing and visual arts.
During the past ten years, 5C Cultural Center has sponsored over 1000 events including musicians, poets, playwrights, visual artists, photographers and social activists. We have tutored many adults and children in music, Mathematics, English and Spanish.
For non-vegetarians -- Enjoy a pre E32 Dinner Special at ALIAS restaurant, 76 Clinton Street, at the corner of Rivington. For dinner reservations call 212-505-5011 and mention E32. “with a seasonally inspired menu emphasizing locally grown ingredients, Alias is coming into its own”. -- New York Magazine
