JORGE ALBAN (1967, San Jose, Costa Rica) studied Fine Arts at The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Arts and Science in New York City, Technical Photography at The Hadassa Institute of Technology in Jerusalem, Cinematography and Video Production at Metropolis and TAI in Madrid, and Art Photography at Veritas University in San Jose, Costa Rica. Since the year 2000 his video and interactive photography combine new media with Latin American socio-political issues.
The dark and revealing humor present in his electronic media works recently earned him an Honorary Mention at the First Central American Emerging Art Festival at the Museum of Costa Rican Art and Design in San Jose, 2003; an Honorary Mention at the Second Interamerican Video Art Biennial by the Inter American Bank in Washington, 2004; and the First Prize at La 240 Young Cinema Festival in San Jose, Costa Rica, 2005.
His videoart GAMES IN THE PARK has just been selected for latinamericas largest and most prestigious video festival: VIDEOBRASIL 2005, where the artist has been invited to lecture in September. His latest interactive documentary CENTRAL AMERICAN GOTHIC will be part of Latin America’s most cutting edge electronic arts festival: FILE: NEW ELECTRONIC LANGUAGES in Sao Paolo in October 2005.
