BIO
As a classically trained composer my work fuses traditional instruments and orchestration with applications of digital technology. My work is an ongoing exploration of human identity, particularly our hidden lives and emotional landscapes and the end result is a lush, melodic, melancholic sound.

I completed my training at the National Film and Television School where I developed a passion for the merging of image, movement and music. I use film and video in my work, often digitally manipulated and re-coloured, to inject a sense of hyper-realism, nostalgia, loss and hope into the pieces.

I have collaborated on a variety of projects with games developer and researcher Dan Pinchbeck since 2003, including a series of experimental game mods. The latest of these, Dear Esther, was selected for Prix Ars Electronica 2008 and has already been downloaded over 10,000 times. We have recently been commissioned to create a new experimental game mod: Korsakovia, designed to investigate how players cope when normal anthropomorphic cues attached to agents are removed.
I have exhibited internationally and have received commissions, residencies, grants and awards from organisations such as the The Wellcome Trust, The Royal Society of Arts, PVA, Werkleitz Gesellschaft, Labculture, Arts Council England, Hull Time Based Arts, Exeter Phoenix, CIBAS and Arts and Technology Partnerships. I was the first ever Artist in Residence at the New Media Centre at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London and was also selected for the European Media Artist Residency Exchange programme in Germany.

My latest film, i carry your heart, was shown around the world in 2008, including the prestigious Kassel Documentary Film and Video Festival; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Venezuela; several festivals in Germany; Poland; India and in the UK. I have recently been selected for the Berlinale Talent Campus 2009, a six day international creative summit in conjunction with the Berlinale Film Festival. I also sit on the Board of Directors for PVA Media Lab, Dorset.

The Second Death of Caspar Helendale by Jessica Curry and Dan Pinchbeck

Dates:
Fri Nov 27, 2009 00:00 - Wed Nov 11, 2009

Location:
United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland

The Second Death of Caspar Helendale by Jessica Curry and Dan Pinchbeck has been selected by The Royal Opera House and will be performed live at the Linbury Studio Theatre, Royal Opera House as part of the Firsts 09 season, "showcasing some of the most talented and genre-defying artists in the UK today."

The Second Life avatar Caspar Helendale invites you to attend his death; a funeral service held simultaneously in the real and virtual worlds. He has been exploring mortality since he was first created, and in his last twenty minutes of existence he will share his thoughts with collected mourners. He will be accompanied by his widow-to-be, Trixiebelle Landar, whose requiem will be performed live and streamed back into the virtual world over the course of the service. Via live onstage musicians and a giant projection screen, the theatre audience will join Second Life residents to reflect and mourn, as the real and virtual worlds collide at the point where Caspar’s light is forever extinguished…

The performances will be taking place simultaneously at the ROH and in Second Life. If you cannot attend in first life then we would be delighted if you and your avatar would join us in Second Life for the duration of the performance.

Teleport to 208.240.22 at 9 p.m. GMT (1 p.m. PST) and join the mourners in Caspar's specially built mausoleum.

Please email jessica@jessicacurry.co.uk for further instructions if you would like to attend in Second Life and feel free to distribute this email to any individuals/communities that may be interested.

27th and 28th November 11, 2009
