BIO
Jeffrey du Vallier d’Aragon Aranita, French and American painter/photographer/new media artist, b. 1954, French Polynesia, a former arts professor at the School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong and the School of Communication of Baptist University of Hong Kong, Aranita is Research Fellow, Arts and Culture for social policy think-tank Civic Exchange in Hong Kong. Through his art he attempts to uncover the tenuous strings of culture in China that stretch from the distant past to the present and help keep communities from social fragmentation amidst powerful currents of modernisation and globalisation. A student of Ansel Adams and Minor White in the 70s, for his hyper-realist painting, Moonrise, Tai Ping Shan, an homage to Adams, Aranita was unanimously awarded the 2004 Sovereign Contemporary Asian Art Award, the largest privately endowed arts prize in Asia.
