Naho Taruishi
November 1 - December 1, 2012
Opening reception: Thursday, November 1, 6 - 9 PM
A.I.R. Gallery is pleased to present Film Drawings, an exhibition of new drawings by Naho Taruishi, on view from November 1 – December 1, 2012. The opening reception will be held on Thursday, November 1st, from 6 – 9pm.
Film Drawings is a series of seven diagrammatic drawings based on selected black and white films including: Andrei Rublev by Andrei Tarkovsky, Faces by John Cassavetes, La Guerre est Finie by Alain Resnais, La Notti Bianche by Luchino Visconti, Rashomon by Akira Kurosawa, The Silence by Ingmar Bergman, and Ugetsu Monogatari by Kenji Mizoguchi. For this new body of work, Taruishi uses the content of these films, their visual sequences, metaphors, historical references, and cinematic techniques to structure unique drawn images. The gestures in her drawings frame the memories formed while watching these films. As a result, Taruishi’s abstract, systematized drawings articulate specific durations of time and resonate the complex architecture of each film.
