Dana Samuel is a media artist, curator, writer and sometimes designer. As an artist, she has shown her performance and media installations at venues including Latitude 53 (Edmonton), Katherine Mulherin Contemporary Art (Toronto) and the Art Gallery of Ontario.
Most recently, Dana was invited as artist-in-residence at the Office for Contemporary Art Norway to create a sound work for radio in Oslo -- the first Canadian artist invited to this internationally renown residency. The new work produced was presented in the group exhibition curated by Rhonda Corvese, The Idea of North, at Galleri F15 in Moss, Norway, and at Dalhousie Art Gallery in Halifax.
Dana holds an MFA from the University of Western Ontario and completed undergraduate studies in Life Sciences at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, and at the Ontario College of Art & Design in Toronto, where she reconciled her research interests in science with a practice in art.
Her writing has been published by Canadian Art Magazine, FUSE Magazine and various galleries nationally. This year, she is co-editing the 10th year anthology from Prefix Institute of Contemporary Art with Scott McLeod.
Dana has received design awards and accolades from the National Magazine Awards Foundation, the Art Director’s Club of New York and the Advertising and Design Club of Canada. She currently sits on the Advisory Council of the Prefix Institute of Contemporary Art and was honoured recently with a Toronto Jewish Arts Council Award and with a Canada Council Research Grant in Visual Arts.
