Studio Intensive Residency at Crawl Space- CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

Deadline:
Sun Apr 19, 2009 00:00

Studio Intensive Residency at Crawl Space- CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

500$ Honorarium for the selected artist

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: APRIL 19, 2009

RESIDENCY DATES: Between JUNE 10-19TH, 2009
EXHIBITION DATES: JUNE 20-JULY 12, 2009

Studio Intensive Residency is a program in which one selected artist is confined to Crawl Space grounds for one week to prepare an exhibition.

The resident artist will commit to a full seven days and nights of working and living at Crawl Space. Arriving at the gallery with whatever art-making and survival supplies he or she brings along, the artist will establish a studio workspace and squatting quarters for the week. The resident artist will receive a $500 honorarium but is responsible for all costs of transportation and production beyond that amount. A hot plate, refrigerator, toilet, sink, and air mattress will also be provided.

During this week of confinement, the artist is expected to generate completely new works, either as a continuation of a body of work or as a special project or installation. No completed or in-progress works will be admitted. Crawl Space hopes that this confinement to an immersed and unfamiliar art making space will spur the resident artist to break away from characteristic approaches and methods of art making.

PLEASE SUBMIT PROPOSALS FOR PARTICIPATION UNDER THE FOLLOWING GUIDELINES:

• 10-20 digital images of recent work

Still images should be in JPG format, at 1000 pixels wide on the longest side (this should create a file under 500kb).
Time-based work should be hosted online (YouTube, Vimeo, personal side) with web address provided.
• Proposed use of time during residency lock-in and how you hope the residency will impact your work
• Artist resume

• Artist statement

• Work sample description
(title, date, dimensions, medium and short descriptions if relevant)

• $15 entry fee

Payments can be made on Shunpike (Crawl Space fiscal sponsor) secure online site: https://co.clickandpledge.com/advanced/default.aspx?wid=20709 or with a cheque written out to Shunpike and sent to: 504 E. Denny Way #1 Seattle WA 98122

Crawl Space is a nonprofit artist-run exhibition space dedicated to cultivating innovative artwork by emerging artists. Since opening our doors in 2003, Crawl Space has presented new works by more than 150 artists, at no charge to a public audience of over 4,000. The Shunpike provides our nonprofit sponsorship.

The Shunpike's mission is to strengthen the Seattle arts community by partnering with small and mid-size arts groups to develop the business tools they need to succeed. It was founded in 2001 to support a vibrant and diverse local arts community where arts groups of all sizes could thrive. We believe that efficient use of resources and smart management can help arts groups do what they do best - now and in the long-term. Working in close partnership with these groups, we help solve problems quickly and impart vital skills in finance, organizational management and arts administration. Since our inception, we have supported work by more than 1,000 artists in live performance, film, literary arts, visual arts, and arts education.
