Brian is a part-time assistant professor in the School of Media Studies at The New School for Public Engagement where he teaches social media, design, and a seminar class in media & performance. Since the early ‘90s, he has been developing collaborative writing workshops with youth groups, including a Zine produced by homeless teens, a creative writing and performance meet-up with LGBT poets, and the nationally recognized Teen Reviewers and Critics (TRaC) program. He started up the After School Critical Response team at Baryshnikov Arts Center in the fall of 2012 with teens from Gotham Professional Arts Academy and Edward R Murrow High School.
McCormick is an award-winning editor for Gay City News, and has written freelance and guest pieces for various publications. In the NYC arts community he has served as a panelist, moderator, guest curator, or adjudicator for Theater Communications Group, New York Foundation for the Arts, Brooklyn Arts Council, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, 651 Arts, Movement Research, and the CMJ Music Marathon. He served on the New York Dance and Performance Awards (Bessies) committee from 2002-2012, and joined the Board of Directors of Pentacle/Dance Works Inc. in 2014.
