My interest in computer arts began in 1986 when, as a graduate student in Electronic Media, I was required to take a computer course; programming in Basic on an Apple IIe. I am currently Chair and Associate Professor of the Kinetic Imaging department at Virginia Commonwealth University. My primary area of scholarly and creative development is animation. I also serve on the Board of Directors for The iotaCenter, a non-profit dedicated to abstract moving image and visual music. I am Chair of the Board of Directors for the Society of Animation Studies (SAS). I have presented work and papers at numerous venues including Siggraph, the Society for Animation Studies annual conference, and the Ammerman Center's Art and Technology Biennial.
My animations "Falling Back to Earth: Tomatillo" and "Between Frames" have screened internationally and won awards. I am currently working on a monograph of the late Adam Beckett, an animator whose work in the 1970s influenced many. He was the head of animation and rotoscoping on the first Star Wars movie, released in 1977.
