Darkness (2014)

What often makes a monochrome so compelling as a painting is the subtle variations that only become apparent when a large monochrome color image is presented. You get a sense of the mass, the grain, the matter of the painting and the actions and intentions of the painter. That is lacking from a field of a single digital color value. James managed to generate a digital monochrome using only computer code that evokes a sense of chaos, matter, decay and darkness.
