OPEN STUDIOS 2015 is an annual event of the EFA Studio Program that invites the public to come explore and interact with our member artists in the intimate setting of their studios. It is an opportunity to see the most recent works by artists at the site of their origin and to gain meaningful insight into their process of creation. The EFA Studio Program is a vibrant and diverse community of over 73 artists working in a wide range of media and artistic sensibilities. All are professional artists with an established studio practice and recognized career. Rarely can curators, collectors, dealers, artists, and art lovers see so many internationally recognized artists working under one roof in Midtown Manhattan. About EFA Studio Program: Founded in 1998 as a program of the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts, the EFA Studio Program was created to provide affordable studio space within a community of artists, facilitate career development, and promote public and critical exposure for our members. EFA Studios is housed on eight floors of the EFA building located in Midtown Manhattan’s Fashion District, in close proximity to the city’s primary gallery districts. Members are selected by a jury of respected arts professionals, through a competitive application process. EFA Studios facilitates interaction with dealers, curators, and critics to provide continued development for member-artists. Unique among studio programs in New York City, EFA Studios is one of the few remaining arts organizations still providing long-term workspace in Manhattan.

At a time when art is increasingly viewed as a commodity and art-school graduates feel that gallery representation is imperative for making a living and a career, it is more important than ever to show the reality of how an artist sustains a creative practice over time. The 40 essays collected in "Living and Sustaining a Creative Life" are written by artists in their own voices and take the form of narratives, statements and interviews. Although each story is different and unique, the common thread is an ongoing commitment to creativity, both inside and outside the studio, that helps define what "success" means to a professional artist today.

As part of Armory Arts Week, we invite you to view nearly 60 Open Studios and visit the EFA Project Space and Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop on Saturday, March 9 from 1:00-6:00pm. EFA is located at 323 W. 39th Street, between 8th and 9th Avenues.
EFA Studios member artists work in a wide range of media and artistic sensibilities, creating a vibrant and diverse community of peers under one roof. Artists on floors 3-10 will have their studios open to welcome guests to explore, interact, and investigate their art.

Studios range in size from 200 to 435 square feet. Ceilings are 11 feet high. Membership fees vary according to the size and shape of the studio assigned to the artist, the studio's location in the building, and the artist's demonstrated financial need. Access to studios is 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
ELIGIBILITY
Visual artists working in all forms of media are eligible. The program is designed for artists with a developed studio practice and career experience. Applicants cannot be in a college or university degree-granting program. Certain types of work cannot be accommodated for practical reasons, including large or heavy sculptures, some types of metal work, and work involving high noise levels or fire risk. Applications are judged solely on the quality of the work as presented. EFA does not discriminate against anyone on the basis of race, creed, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, sexual orientation or marital status. Artists must be citizens of the United States, or must be legal U.S residents during their tenure.
